An idea...

I just had a great idea! What if there was a website where writers all around the world could go and share their ideas, and then after collaborating for a while, wrote a book and sent it out into the world where everyone could read their amazing writing, and then suggest ideas on that same website so that the process could start all over again. I think that's a pretty good idea. Maybe it would be called Collaborator.com, or something like that. It may not seem like that much but the authors of the world, ametuers and professional, probably have some great ideas. Let's do it!

The Wonders of Writing

Writing can work wonders by changing the way we think. New thinking leads to new actions, and new actions lead to new ideas, which means new thinking. It's a cycle. Writing can also change our perspective. At first, you may just squash an ant thinking about how gross and strange they are, but then, you may read an article about ants and how they survive and use teamwork to do it. Ants are just another living creature in this world that is trying to survive. Like I said, it's all about perspective and writing has the ability to change it. Writing is a lot like art. You get paint a picture of a scene and use and display strong emotions. You can write about something you are passionate about, like if your passionate about writing, you can write about writing(which I'm doing write right now), something you want to see change, like reducing the trash in landfills, or just for entertainment. I'm sure they're others, but these might be some of the most important. Writing can change our perspective and the way we think.

Rising Writer Tidbit: Untitled #1

This rising writer tidbit was written because every writer struggles with finding a topic to write about,  especially when there's nothing interesting going on that is noteworthy. This excerpt is not titled, but if you have any ideas, let me know.

She sat staring out the window blankly. She had big dreams, but she didn't know how to get them started. Looking down at her paper, her brow furrowed.
"C'mon, Lydia, think of something!" she told herself sternly. "You can't be a writer if you can't even get a word on the page!" Her heart sank as she realized how true those words were.
Lydia Caliway had always wanted to be a writer. She had been writing stories since the first grade. The ideas used to flow out of her like a rushing river, her gears turning  faster after every word. Now, it was over. It seemed like all of her ideas were gone.
She had been staring at this piece of wide ruled notebook paper for the past week. She had some ideas, but who wants to read a book about a horseback rider that rides a pegasus?
"Lydie, dinner!" called her mother from the kitchen. "Ugh," Lydia groaned. She reluctantly got up and went to the dining room. Dinner started long and boring, as always. Her mom and dad talked about science (her mom was a scientist, and her dad was a doctor), her older brother, Arthur was on his phone texting his girlfriend, Maria, and her little brother, Brandon was annoying her, as usual.
"Did you hear about the new movie, Robots on Parade? Did ya hear about it? Huh? Huh?" Lydia rolled her eyes. "Yes! I heard about the movie! Now shut up!" Lydia yelled.
"Lydia, no yelling at the table," warned her father. "Oh, yes that reminds me. Kids, pack your bags! Tomorrow, we are leaving for Sanibel Island!" exclaimed Mrs. Caliway. Oh, dear. This trip will be the longest trip I have ever taken, thought Lydia.
"This weekend? I was gonna take Maria to that new movie! You know how much she loves science fiction! Now I gotta cancel it," whined Arthur before returning to his phone. "Why can't you just go next weekend?" Lydia asked. "Because," replied Mr. Caliway, "We will be flying in from Sanibel Island next weekend."
After a dinner full of surprises,Lydia went back to her room wanting only one surprise:a good idea.
There was a knock at the door. "Come in, Lydia said dryly. Her mother walked in and sat on the bed with her.
"Something's up," observed Mrs. Caliway. Scientists tend to be good at that. "Yeah," agreed  Lydia. "So, what is it?" her mother asked. "I want to write a story, but I have no idea what I want to write about," sighed Lydia. "Well, I don't know much about writing, but there's a process scientists use all the time. First, we gather information. In your case, you could take a journal with you on our trip, and write what happens each day. The next step is to present it. For your case, you could take that journal and use your experiences to write a story. Then you could edit it and maybe even get it published. And if all else fails, you'll have a journal to remember our trip."
Lydia thought for a minute. "Sure, why not?" This trip could be worth writing about. she thought. We'll have lots of fun, I'm sure of it. This trip can't be that bad. Could it?

Words to Use Instead of Said

When writing, we all struggle with finding words to use instead of said. I have provided a website that I use all the time that has a list of wonderful words to use. Also, using adverbs to explain how the character said it works wonderfully, too.

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog, Write On! This blog features writing tips, good books, and bits and pieces of books from rising writers! Have fun reading Write On!
